THE EFFECT OF PAIR WORK AS PREWRITING ACTIVITY TOWARDS THE STUDENTS’ WRITING QUALITY

Abstract


Pair work as prewriting activity is the activity in sharing and discussing about the ideas before start writing.
It is formed between two students. This study is to investigate the effect of pair work as prewriting activity
towards the students’ writing quality. The experimental research is carried out by using quasi-experimental
design to know whether pair work as prewriting activity has significant effect towards the writing quality of
the students. The subjects of the research are the English Department students of IKIP PGRI Madiun in the
second semester. There are two classes used in this research. There are 30 participants in the experimental
group and 30 participants in the control group. The experimental group is given pair work as prewriting
activity and the control group is given conventional teaching. The result of students writing is analyzed by
using independent t-test and the level of significance is .05. The result shows that there is significant effect
on the students’ writing quality by using pair work as prewriting activity in classroom. The students who
write by using pair work as prewriting activity have better writing quality than the students who write
without by using pair work as prewriting activity. Pair work shows helping the students to produce better
writing.
