HOW TO USE 3H (HERE, HIDDEN, IN MY HEAD) IN TEACHING READING OF NARRATIVE TEXT

Abstract


Many reading strategies have been used. 3H (Here, Hidden and in my Head) strategy is one of
strategies used in teaching reading especially teaching narrative text. This strategy uses the specific
questions to make students understand the text easily. Narrative text tells the imagination story so
that students sometimes difficult to catch the contents of the story. Students have no motivation, no
interest, and tend to be passive in reading class. Teaching narrative text using 3H strategy is useful
to support reading comprehension in the classroom because it can help teacher to convey the
lesson. Also, this strategy can activate the background knowledge of the students because they
should clasify the questions and answer them. This article is aimed at describing the use of 3H in
teaching reading and what happens with the class when 3H strategy is applied in reading class. 3H
strategy makes the students use their prior knowledge and information to answer spesific
questions. With 3H strategy, the process learning becomes more enjoyable and interesting. It is
recommended for students to apply 3H strategies as their own reading strategies to get better
understanding.
