THE EFFECTIVENESS OF A PLAY MODEL FOR DEVELOPING READING, WRITING, AND NUMERACY IN EARLY CHILDHOOD

Abstract


One of early childhood characteristic is studying while playing. The consequence is a play should
be managed as a learning method and not being a distraction activities only. This research is done
to produce an effective play model for developing reading, writing, and numeracy competences in
early childhood. This method is chosen research and development based on Borg and Gall model.
The play model that has been developed is called Let’s Find Them. Limited trial of a play model
was done in Permata Pelangi Kediri kindergarten and wider trial of a play mode was done in ABA
6 Kediri kindergarten. Validation of a play model was done based on the result of trials. The
hypothetic model of play then was test through experiment in Pembina Kediri state kindergarten
and Dharma Wanita Ngampel Kediri kindergarten. The result is analyzed by using Paired Samples
t Test showed that there is a significant difference in reading, writing, and numeracy competence
between pre and post test with a level of significance 0,00 (significance<0,05). It can be concluded
that the model of Let’s Find Them is effective for developing reading, writing, and numeracy in
childhoodearly childhood.
